The medieval hilltop village of Civitella Marittima
Civitella Marittima is a medieval hilltop village in Tuscany located in the Upper Maremma, between Siena and the sea. This is one of the few areas of Italy where nature still reigns. The village is home to 350 residents and offers all essential services.
Services available in the village
There are 2 banks, both with bank machine/ATM, one grocery store, 2 bakeries, and various other shops (florist, gift shop and ceramics, tobacconist, news agent’s, butcher, fresh pasta, etc.). The village also has a post office, pharmacy and clinic. In the village centre there is an excellent restaurant and two bars and less than 2km away there is another restaurant/pizzeria.
A few steps from the house is a large public park, perfect for walking the dog or relaxing in the shade of the chestnut trees on one of the numerous benches.
The Surrounding Area
The two closest villages (Paganico 7km and Roccastrada 13km) have small shopping centres, supermarkets and numerous restaurants and pizzerias that prepare both meat and seafood dishes.
Along with the other villages in the community (Pari, Casal di Pari, Monte Antico, and Dogana), they offer the opportunity to discover places of exceptional beauty not to be found in the standard tourist circles. A unique way to discover and experience authentic Tuscany.
Casina di Rosa is also an ideal starting point for a tour of the excellent cuisine and of the local products that the Tuscan Maremma and Southern Tuscany have to offer.
The “Sagra” and other activities organized in the village
The village of Civitella Marittima itself offers numerous possibilities throughout the year. On weekends in June and July, the village cultural association organizes “Dinners Under the Stars“, a series of outdoor dinners featuring a different local specialty each week. On the last weekend of August is the village “Sagra dell’Alta Maremma“, festival featuring music and dancing, arts and crafts and, of course, good food. Moreover, in November, we celebrate the new olive oil and the Autumn flavours with the “Festa del Buco Unto”, a yearly olive oil festival.
